CDI is currently looking for a Telecommunications Technician.
General Job Description:
Provides various services to include the installation, testing, modification, repair, maintenance, and day-to-day technical support of new and existing telecommunication systems and related telecommunications cabling and wiring infrastructure.
Work involves move, add and change activity, new system installs, and the maintenance of all cable records, station equipment databases, and any other related documentation and records required to maintain accurate inventories, facilities management systems and customer billing records.
Telecommunication systems include but are not limited to equipment used to support Data, Voice, Radio and Microwave systems.
Telecommunications technicians may perform the following tasks:
Install network equipment and set up new telecommunications services.
Make sure that equipment and circuit installations are of good quality.
Making connections by routing, splicing, terminating, and otherwise connecting fiber optic and copper lines.
undertake proof tests such as wire testing, circuit commissioning and power tests.
Assemble, erect, position and label items of equipment.
Install, test and maintain all types of telecommunications, switching and transmission equipment, including telephone exchanges and the public telephone network.
Carry out modifications to items of equipment.
Analyse system faults with a high degree of diagnostic skill.
Maintain and adhere to operational procedures and complete appropriate documentation.
Take responsibility for tools, plant and test equipment.
Develop and maintain good relations with internal and external customers.
Operate electronic test equipment in testing of data lines, networks, and personal computer equipment.
Troubleshoots all aspects of the fiber optic network and/or individual circuits utilizing test equipment such as the OTDR, Optical Power Meters and VFLs.
Constructs, installs and splices in several types of splice enclosures, fiber patch panels and fiber termination frames using a fusion type fiber splicer.
Minimum Requirements:
Two years of experience installing, maintaining and repairing telecommunication systems.
Two years of experience installing and testing structured Category 5 (or greater) telecommunications cabling and wiring systems for both riser and horizontal station wiring requirements.
Understanding of communication technology and fundamentals.
Ability to work well within a team; good interpersonal relation skills.
Effective verbal & written communication.
Experience in coordination with multiple groups, companies, and people simultaneously.
Demonstrated ability to work productively with little direct supervision.
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks.
Must have the ability to identify and discern colors for maintenance and repair of fiber optic cable.
Desired Requirements:
Experience with outside plant; telecommunications or distribution systems and/or transmission systems.
Experience with SONET network elements.
Understanding of WDM, DWMD, CWDM, and G.709 technology.
Experience with the Spatial Net fiber documentation application or other outside plant documentation systems such as Distribution GIS.
Understanding and hands-on experience in optical setups, DSP and digital equipment: Spectrum analysis, BERT testing.
Experience with taking measurements
(insertion, return loss, PDL, etc.)
Knowledge of OTDR test equipment, mass fusion splicing and single fiber optic fusion splicing.
Experience with DACS Tellabs 5320L Cross Connect System.
Experience with Fiber optic cable installation (OPGW and ADSS overhead and underground), splicing, path creation, etc
Understanding of TIA/EIA, IEEE and BICSI standards.
Certain activities are restricted to after hours. Most work does not require after-hours work, but some critical infrastructure additions/modifications will require after hours work activities.
